WorkForce Essentials works with our community's youth in several ways:

The U.S. Department of Labor announced that the North Tennessee Workforce Board will receive funds from the federal economic stimulus package which focuses specifically on summer employment opportunities for local area youth. Individuals age 14 – 24 years who are economically disadvantaged or face other employment barriers are eligible to apply for summer jobs making $7.25 or more per hour. The Summer Youth Employment Project in Cheatham, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart, Sumner and Williamson Counties in middle Tennessee will be administered by Workforce Essentials through local Tennessee Career Centers. Workforce Essentials’ goal is to place approximately 750 young individuals from the above listed area into worthwhile, work experience summer jobs.

To develop the skills they need to find and keep good jobs. Youth throughout Middle Tennessee have discovered personal success with various Job Seeker Services that are available through our Career Centers. These services target youth ages 14-21 years and help those whose family's income is below average, are at risk of dropping out of school, or those who need to obtain job skills after high school.
Special grants may also be available to assist young adults age 18-21 yrs old with short-term vocational training, tuition, books, required supplies, fees for exams & licenses, and additional support services. For more information, contact Jerry Jones, Area Youth Program Coordinator at 615.347.6325, j.j.jones@comcast.net or contact your local Career Center.
Assisting them to become safe drivers through our Driver Education Program . WorkForce Essentials provides quality driver education classes for all ages. New classes start every month at four convenient locations.
The Jobs for Tennessee Graduates (JTG) program helps selected Cheatham, Houston, Robertson, and Williamson County high school students graduate, and better prepare them for the realities of the workplace.

The LWIA8 Youth Council is developing year round programs for our area's youth. Program updates will be highlighted on this web-site.
